St. Augustine Alligator Farm

The St. Augustine Alligator Farm is not just about alligators. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of alligators, but they also have many other wonderful exhibits.

Founded in 1893, it's one of Florida’s oldest zoological attractions and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In 1979 it became an accredited zoological park. One of a select few facilities recognized for the quality of their collection and the care afforded them.

Alligator Farm Exhibits

- Maximo, a 15’ 3” saltwater crocodile from Australia. Quite an impressive fellow.

- the “Land of Crocodiles” features 23 species of crocodilians from around the world.

- rare albino alligators from the bayous of Louisiana.

- rare and exotic birds from South America, Australia, Asia and Africa.

- a collection of 7 species of endangered monkeys.

- piles of alligators.

- and my favorite, the wading bird rookery.

Roseate Spoonbill St. Augustine FL

We have visited this park many, many times and I am still in awe as I walk along the boardwalk in the rookery.

Just take your time and start looking around, first you’ll see one bird then before you know it you’ll be spotting them all over the place. Some just a few feet away.

The alligators in the water below offer protection for the birds from tree climbing predators.

This makes it the perfect place for nesting and raising families in the spring. You'll see nests of fluffy chicks just a few feet away. Amazing!
