Guana River State Park
Guana River State Park | Guana River State Park is huge! 2,400 acres located halfway between St. Augustine and Jacksonville along A1A. It stretches from the Tolomato River (Intracoastal Waterway) all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. Unspoiled beaches, coastal scrub, tidal marshes, hardwood hammock, and an estuarine river make up this incredible park. There are several historic sites in the park. The Shell Bluff Landing site, along the Tolomato River, has an old minorcan well made with coquina block that has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Hiking trail winds through the palmettos | As in many of our parks, you'll find a wide array of song birds and wading birds. You may also catch a glimpse of a Florida Panther, river otter, or a wild pig. On one of our hikes we spotted a sow and her babies. You never know what you might find so keep your eyes and ears open. A favorite activity is Birds, Botany and Breakfast which is offered one Saturday each month from September through May. Patiently waiting for a bite | It is a two mile walk where you will learn about the birds and plants at the park. Following the walk, coffee, orange juice, doughnuts and muffins are served. The cost is $5.00 per person. There is so much to explore at this park, make time to spend at least a half a day. Hours: 8:00 a.m. until dusk 365 days per year Fees: $4.00 per vehicle 2690 S.
