Want to know where the locals eat? This is it, the Sea Fair Restaurant. The tastiest fried shrimp in town, and the prime rib is roasted to perfection. Just ask a local!
The Sea Fair Restaurant, Saint Augustine’s oldest family owned restaurant, has been serving up great food since 1953.
They are known for their fried shrimp, prime rib and fresh fish. The daily specials are a real treat, too. Good hearty meals.
The establishment was started by Mr. Anthony Hadjis, a Greek immigrant, who began his career in Manhattan and the Catskill Mountains back in the late 30’s where he owned hotels and restaurants. He came to Saint Augustine with his family and opened the Sea Fair, which is still in its original location. The restaurant was passed onto his wife and three young sons after Mr. Hadjis died at the early age of 57.
A recent evening found Jim and I enjoying a delightful fried shrimp dinner at the Sea Fair. Our server, Stacey, brought a complimentary basket of cheese and crackers to start us off. Very tasty! Next came a salad for me and coleslaw for Jim. He says he can always tell if it is from a “box” or homemade; this was homemade, the real deal.
Then our plates of perfectly golden fried shrimp arrived. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and finished up with a slice of Lemon Meringue Pie. From the minute we walked in the door we saw familiar faces. This really is where “us” local eat.
Nowhere else will you find Saint Augustine shrimp fried with a delicate blend of batter, but at the Sea Fair. Other fried fare includes oysters, clams, fish and scallops. There is also a full bar serving up specialty and classic cocktails.
Locals and tourists alike have crowded into the Sea Fair for over 55 years. The restaurant is still run by the Hadjis Family. So, stop in, say “hello” and let the family serve you a delicious meal, just like they’ve done for 55 years.
