St. Augustine Amphitheatre
While you are visiting, plan to spend an evening or two at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre. You can hear your favorite national recording artist or watch a movie on the big screen. I always enjoy the shows but what makes it extra special is being outdoors under the stars. Nestled among 16 acres of lush hammock forest, the Amphitheatre is located midway between St. Augustine and the beach. From downtown, cross the Bridge of Lions and head south on A1A. You'll find it two miles down on your left. The Amphitheatre was built in 1965 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of St. Augustine. For 32 years it was the home of Florida's official state play the Cross & Sword written by Pulitzer-prize winner Dr. Paul Green. The final curtain fell in 1996. In 2002, our county decided to renovate the facility. We now have a top of the line, state of the art performing arts venue.
