St. Augustine Cool Jazz Music Series
Sanmar Productions presents the St. Augustine Cool Jazz Music Series. Kick off begins May 9,2009, 7:30 pm at Flagler College Auditorium. This promises to be a great show, so hang on to your seats and prepare yourself for the live musical experience of Steve Oliver. Often likened to a hybrid of George Benson and Bobby McFerrin, Steve has toured and performed with an exciting list of genre stars and legends, including Chris Botti, The Rippingtons, Michael Franks, Kyle Eastwood and Fourplay.
His 2002 album hit the BillBoard top 20 and ranked #1 on the year end hit list of the 50 most played recordings in Canada in 2003. That means topping legends like David Sanborn, Steely Dan and Michael McDonald. His legacy continues in 2008 with the release of his first ever DVD/CD 2 disc set, “One Night Live”.
The night begins with the horn like melodic style of bassist Blake Gaines. Blake’s debut release, “Smooth BASSics”, not only brings a melodic bassist to the scene but introduces a multitalented musician as well. On this project he programed all percussion tracks, played all keys, trumpet, 7 string bass and sings background vocals on the hit single, “The Look”.
This artist who hails from Louisiana, has performed with names like, Banford Marsalis, Henry Butler and Randy Jackson (of American Idol) to name only a few. He toured with smooth jazz pianist, Bob Baldwin for 11 years and shared the stage with artists such as, Chuck Loeb and Buddy Williams. As an arranger he has scoured music for the 1994 Super Bowl pre game show and 2 musical arrangements on the movie “Drum Line” and the new off Broadway show “Drum Line Live”, which is presently touring world wide.
