Friday, Saturday and Sunday - February 26-28

St. Augustine Fest brings live music, arts and crafts, food and kids' zone to benefit the St. Augustine Police Department's Benevolent Organization. Hours: Friday, 5:00 - 10:00 pm; Saturday noon-10:00 pm; and Sunday noon-5:00 pm Admission is $2 per person. Further info (904)545-7570.


Friday and Saturday - February 26-27

St. Augustine By the Sea is a two-part symposium presented by historical and archaeological scholars. You'll learn about St. Augustine's long standing connection with the sea.

Friday, 7 p.m. - Flagler Room at Flagler College. "Sailing the Atlantic: Explorations, Discovery and Rivers in the Ocean" will be presented by Dr. Stan Ulanski from James Madison University.

Saturday, 10 a.m. - Alcazar Room of City Hall. "Maritime Insights From St. Augustine's British Period Records," by Dr. Sam Turner, St. Augustine Lighthouse; "Hello Sailor! St. Augustine as a Sea Port," by Dr. James Cusick, University of Florida; "Warships Off the Coast in World War II", Dr. Michael Gannon, University of Florida; "Prehistoric Shell Mounds, Middens and Rings," Christine Newman, Archeological Consultants, Inc.; "Social History of Oysters in Florida, Diane Wakeman, Florida Humanities Council; and "Coquina Homes and Private Projects," Dr. Susan Parker, St. Augustine Historical Society.

Saturday - February 27

Lots to do at our St. Augustine Parks this weekend!

Flight to Freedom tell s the story of Fort Mose and the saga of the first Underground Railroad. Re-enactors in period clothing bring the story to life. Also drumming, storytelling and colonial weapons demonstrations. Fort Mose State Park - Hours: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Usual park fees apply. Further info -(904)823-2232

Torchlight Tour of Fort Matanzas is led by 1740 Spanish soldier re-enactors on duty at the fort. See the dark night sky light up as the cannon's are fired. Tour depart at 6:00 pm, 6:45 pm, 7:30 pm, and 8:15 pm. Tickets - $7.00. Further info - (904)471-0116

St. Augustine Garrison at Fort Mose demonstrates life in colonial times. Hours - 11:00 am - 2:00 pm. Fort Mose State Park Further info - (904) 823-2232


Noche de Gala is a wonderful 16th century masked ball that celebrates the 491st birthday of don Pedro Menendez de Aviles, founder of St. Augustine.

Menendez will be portrayed by Chaz Mena, star of NBC's Law and Order. Cocktail reception, dinner and dancing. Attire is black tie or 16th century costume. 6:30 pm - Lightner Museum Ballroom. Tickets 185.00 for the gala, $50.00 for the cocktail reception only. Reservations required. Further info - (904)825-5033

23rd Annual "Music for the Birds" Concert benefit for H.A.W.K.W.E Wildlife fund. Performances by Bob and Joline, Paradox, and Jaime DeFrantz. Hours: 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm. Further info (904)692-1777


Uptown Saturday Night is always fun event. Galleries, antique stores and unique shops invite you to stop in and see what's new. Music, book-signing, refreshments and fun. Hours: 5:00 - 9:00 pm. San Marco Avenue. Further info - (904)824-3152.


Saturday and Sunday - February 27-28

Walk on the Wild Side purebred and household pet cat show. Special guests from the St. Augustine Wild Reserve. Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village. Show times: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Saturday and 9:00 am - 4:00 pm on Sunday. Tickets: $6. Further info - (904)377-2569

Sunday - February 28

Marineland's Family Fun Day offers free admission for all at the Dolphin Conservation Center. Hours: 1:00 - 4:00 pm. Further info - (904)471-1111
