St. Augustine "Nights of Lights" Lights Up November 21, 2009

This weekend kicks off Christmas in St. Augustine.


Friday, November 20 - January 3

Experience a Winter Wonderland, Florida style at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre. Ice skating, an ice slide, horse carriage rides through an enchanted forest, s'mores and real snow! Ride the Elf Express train to visit Santa at the Elf Village. Noon to 10:00 p.m. daily. Info (904) 471-1965


Saturday, November 21

Thousands of twinkling lights burst to life in downtown St. Augustine. Our annual Nights of Lights begins at 4:00 p.m. with a performance by Showtime USA followed by the All Star Orchestra at 5:30. The countdown to "flipping the switch" begins at 6:30 p.m. It will be a night to remember. Plaza de la Constitucion.

St. Augustine's Nights of Lights Celebration will continues through January 31, 2010.

A Candlelight Night of Prayer along with St. Augustine's Schola Cantoraem directed by Mary Jane Ballou will be held at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine. The service will being at 8:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Classical guitarist Stephen Robinson will perform a special benefit concert for the Betty Griffin House. Mr. Robinson, a world-renowned musician, has appeared with the Boston Pops and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Memorial Presbyterian Church 7:30 p.m. Donations of $10.00 - $20.00 per person are welcome.

St. Photios Greed Orhtodox National Shrine will host a book signing with Harvey Alexander Smith, author of Danger Beyond the Reef. An action adventure drama about two Greek-American families in Floria. 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.


Sunday, November 22, 2009

The Sunday Market, held at the Vilano Pier, is hosting a Create your own Scarecrow contest. Bring your best scarecrow duds to stuff. Straw will be provided by Vilano Town Center businesses. Scarecrows will be photographed and a grand prize winner to be announced November 29. Noon - 4:00 p.m.


See the Nights of Lights aboard the Holly Jolly Christmas Trolley Tour. Caroling, hot cider and homemade cookies. Tours run continuously from 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. beginning at the Visitor Center on Castillo Dr. Adults - $7.00 Children - $4.00
