The Best St. Augustine Parks
Just imagine taking a relaxing stroll along unspoiled beaches; or wandering along trails beneath a canopy of majestic oaks; or climbing up ancient coquina steps to peer out an old gun tower; you’ll find all this and more at our St. Augustine parks.
* Castillo de San Marcos
– our world famous National Monument found right in the heart of St. Augustine.
* Guana River State Park
– a 2,400 acre park, which offers numerous outdoor activities; hiking, fishing, birding, kayaking and 4.2 miles of unspoiled beach. Found north of St. Augustine on A1A.
* Fort Mose
– the first legally sanctioned free Black community. Our newest park and a work in progress. Just outside the city limits on the north end of town.
* Anastasia State Park
- midway between St. Augustine and St. Augustine Beach. An abundance of outdoor activities and a full service campground.
* Fort Matanzas National Monument
– the guard of St. Augustine’s southern river approach. A short ferry ride across the Matanzas River takes you over to the fort. Located south of St. Augustine Beach on A1A.
* Washington Oaks Gardens State Park
– a beautiful park with pristine gardens, a large picnic area, hiking trails and an interpretive center, all along the banks of the Matanzas River. Across A1A on the eastern side of the park is beach access with a parking area. This is one of our favorites.
* Faver-Dykes State Park
– across the Matanzas River from Washington Oaks. For the adventuresome, you could put in your kayak and paddle across the river however, the rest of us might be better off driving! Entrance to the park is off US 1 south of St. Augustine.
Be sure to set aside several hours or even a whole day to enjoy these beautiful St. Augustine treasures. We love taking a picnic supper to one of our parks; the perfect place to relax, rejuvenate and unwind.
See you there!
